The weather here has been a welcome break from the heat and humidity back in the New York area. Took advantage of it to run five miles along the Embarcadero, and then added back all of those calories and more at a late dinner at the excellent Barbacco Eno Trattoria. In between, we had the West Coast demos.
Feedback
One participant had an interesting suggestion regarding Portfolio Armor. It’s actually an idea I had thought about when we were developing the site but had been talked out of by my academic finance consultant: to apply the algorithm to calls as well, for short sellers looking to hedge against short positions that go against them. We’ll take that idea under consideration.
On the plus side, it looks like the long-short hedge fund managers I met today (along with an RIA who constructs long-short portfolios for his clients) will be joining Short Screen. On the negative side, it doesn’t look like they will be posting many of their own ideas on the site. I got some candid feedback on why they were more interested in reading other members’ short ideas than contributing their own. Based on that, I’m thinking of tweaking the business model a bit, perhaps by increasing incentives for active posters, and raising prices to cover the cost of that.
Short Screen Contest Update
The quickie Short Screen posting contest is over, and Hesperian won. He is soon to be the new owner of a HP 12C financial calculator. Honorable mentions go to Stockdoxc, Avoidthegarbage, and Yarek, who all posted some smart ideas.
