That title doesn’t sound as fancy in English (“I Am Love“). We saw this Monday night. I had to drop off my car at the mechanic’s, whose shop happens to be located near an indie theater where this was playing. Don’t read the reviews unless you want to know most of the plot points ahead of time, but this movie really isn’t about the plot.
When Precious (which I didn’t watch) came out, I recall someone describing it as “poverty porn”. I suppose that would make I Am Love wealth porn. This is worth watching for the art direction and scenery. The exotic marble in the bathroom of Tilda Swinton’s villa in Milan reminded me something out of the Chrysler Building’s lobby. The occasional ham-handed touch (e.g., cutting to bees pollinating flowers during an outdoor love scene) doesn’t spoil the entertainment. Below is the trailer.
