A few links

Below are a few links worth checking out. I don’t normally post link-fests, simply because I don’t read a lot of blogs regularly, but here are a few items for your consideration:

Tereza Nemessanyi, on what her mother taught her about business: “Mashups, Markets and Motherhood: What Mom Taught Me About Business”. That’s actually the first time I’ve visited Tereza’s Tumblog, though I’ve enjoyed reading her tweets and her comments elsewhere. I’ll have to check it out more in the future.

And, for something completely different, Matt Mireles (“Face It: NYC is Not The Best Place For A Startup” and “NYC Startups Need an Independent Press”) versus Charlie O’Donnell (“Five Common Misconceptions about Building a Start-up in NYC”).

If you haven’t heard of either of those guys (as I hadn’t a couple of weeks ago), don’t let that stop you from clicking if you enjoy a heated exchange. A quick intro though, Matt is the founder of an interesting-sounding start-up called Speaker Text, and Charlie is an EIR1 at the NYC venture capital firm First Round Capital. Matt penned a missive about how hard it is to start a company in NYC, claimed Charlie “shat” on him in a comment, and it sort of developed from there. Matt has moxie, and seems to have lived an interesting life so far, so I was ready to root for him as the underdog here, but, objectively, I think Charlie made the solider points. Judge for yourselves though.

Hat tip to Mark Essel for the Matt v. Charlie kerfuffle.

1I didn’t know what EIR stood for until I read this New York Times article yesterday about Entrepreneurs in Residence.
