Hat tip to Andrew Anderson for this classic from 1923, Scientific Advertising (PDF) by Claude Hopkins. It’s interesting how, despite all the sound and fury associated with the Internet, some things really haven’t changed: the split testing done now in search engine marketing is essentially the same thing marketers were doing with direct mail 90 years ago.
