The Winter Olympics has been a loss leader for NBC, which paid more for the broadcast rights than it is receiving in advertising revenue. The reason the network was willing to pay so much for the broadcast rights is that it gets to plug its own programming during the games. Here in the New York market, they are running ads featuring the anchors of the local NBC affiliate’s nightly news show. They just showed one featuring local anchor Sue Simmons, which reminded me of this famous faux pas of hers. Enjoy:
